Collaborative Housing in Europe

NETCO partners gathered in Montpellier to exchange experiences on collaborative housing, affordable housing policies and local government support across Europe.

NETCO Meeting in Montpellier

Representatives from cities, metropolitan and regional governments, and civil society groups from across Europe gathered in Montpellier, France, for a new NETCO (Network of Cities for Collaborative Housing) meeting focused on land tenure models for collaborative housing. Hosted by urbaMonde-France, Habitat Participatif France, and éCOhabitons34, the gathering combined site visits to local collaborative housing projects, a public conference on the role of local authorities, and internal workshops on affordable and community-led housing solutions.

Participants exchanged experiences on public policies, financing mechanisms, and citizen-led approaches to help address Europe’s growing housing affordability crisis. The meeting also highlighted the increasing interest of municipalities in collaborative housing as a tool to foster social inclusion, environmental sustainability and community resilience for diverse target groups, including older adults, single parents, students, survivors of domestic violence, asylum seekers, people with disabilities and more.
